Jim Nantz throws another not-so-subtle jab at LIV Golf during the PGA Championship.
As Dustin Johnson prepared to tee off at the PGA Championship on Thursday, Nantz couldn’t resist commenting on the former Masters champion’s recent victory on the LIV Tour.
“In case you missed it, he emerged as the winner just last week in Tulsa after a thrilling playoff against Cam Smith,” Nantz mentioned during the ESPN broadcast.
While Johnson’s triumph in Tulsa was notable, the intense conclusion featuring two of the world’s top players was overshadowed by the majority of CW affiliates opting for alternative programming.
As a result, fans were directed to the CW app with only four holes remaining for the golfers.
This year hasn’t been the first instance of Nantz utilizing a prominent platform to playfully tease the PGA Tour’s competitor.
At the Masters, Nantz couldn’t resist making a remark about Brooks Koepka, yet another player who had joined the ranks of LIV Golf, as he hit a shot from the crosswalk on Augusta’s 15th hole.
“Look at him there, right on the CW — the crosswalk,” Nantz quipped, perhaps being the first person ever to abbreviate “crosswalk” with initials.
In an interview with the SI Media podcast, Nantz disclosed that he was simply indulging in a little lighthearted banter with that comment.
Nance is spot on with this one! LIV is simply an inferior product that has indulged itself in the golf masses.
